When God Has Us Restrained

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

The below Facebook post by Ann Wanjiku resonated with me this morning.

"The Lord says, "I will perform some of My greatest miracles in your life when your 'hands are tied.' When you will be in a place of knowing that there is absolutely nothing YOU can do about the situation. You will be acutely aware that in and of yourself, what I will do could not have been done, and you will give Me all the glory and all the praise."

As I thought about this post, God showed me a man in a straight-jacket. It was the extra-strong arrangement where hands were not only secured with straps, but they were also secured with chains behind his back. I'm sure this man didn't like it much, but he was RESTRAINED until released. He may have had big plans for the day, but this was his REALITY, and it was totally out of his control. Also, it was for his protection!

Then God brought to mind Ezekiel 4:1-8. God orders his prophet Ezekiel to do something strange (and difficult!) as a sign and symbol:

"Now, son of man, take a clay tablet, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it: Erect siege works against it, build a ramp against it and put battering rams around it. Then take an iron pan, place it as a wall between you and the city and turn your face towards it. It will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.

"Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side. I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the house of Israel.

"After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin of the house of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year. Turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her. I WILL TIE YOU UP WITH ROPES SO THAT YOU CANNOT TURN FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED THE DAYS OF YOUR SIEGE."

So here is a Word for someone: "God has you RESTRAINED," [for your protection, among other reasons] "but there is a definite point at time when you will be released. So stop struggling."

And be at peace.
