Proning

Can I share something cool? I had a verse on my heart this afternoon. It was Psalm 4:8.

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

I couldn't remember the reference, and I was flipping around for it and found this verse, the page before, Psalm 3:5.

I lie down and sleep;

I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

Ok, nice, nice. That's in the New International Version. The NIV. But here's the really cool part. Here is how The Message phrases it:

I stretch myself out. I sleep. Then I am up again-

rested, tall and steady...

Oh my goodness! This is a description of Proning! When I was in the hospital and fighting for air, they taught me Proning. If you lie flat on your stomach and bring your arms up, something about this position stretches your lungs out, and gives you maximum oxygen absorption. When I am in respiratory distress, if I stretch myself out this way, I start feeling better in minutes.

I stretch myself out. I sleep.

Then I'm up again- rested, tall, and steady...

Proning. Wow God!
