A few days ago, I noticed that God had stopped talking to me about a long-term concern, and I was asking Him "Why was that?" In response, God showed me two workmen, stage hands, carrying a curtain across the stage, blocking my view. When I asked God what the vision meant, 2 Kings 4:27 came to mind. In this passage, a woman in anguish has come to the prophet Elisha:
When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, "Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress, but the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me why."
God was telling me that, for His purposes, I was not allowed to watch while the stage was being set for the next Act. My job was to sit my butt in the chair and WAIT. I also noticed that the curtain wasn't lowered from the ceiling, indicating the play was over. Not at all. This is just a scene change, so I was not to get excited.
I am reminded of the story of the man walking by the lunatic asylum and hearing the patients behind the wooden fence chanting "Twenty-one! Twenty-one! Twenty-one! Twenty-one!" His curiosity aroused, he put his face to a knothole in the fence to see what was going on, and was immediately poked in the eye by one of the patients...
"Twenty-TWO!" the inmates gleefully shouted. "Twenty-TWO! Twenty-TWO! Twenty-TWO!"
So if this is you, and God has closed something off to your vision or understanding, kindly resist the urge to peek around the curtain. Allow Him to set the stage without interference.
TWENTY-TWO!!! (Mind yo business!)
