I need to apologize about something. I was upset last Friday about my church and pastor being slimed online, so I did something about it. I replied to their post, technically to their supporters' horrible comments. This in turn touched off a flurry of angry and bitter personal messages and public comments from one of their supporters, both about my original comment and about my long Facebook post on Saturday about Prosperity and Healing. This accomplished nothing other than to get two believers, strangers, mad at each other. My wife's judicious comment was,
"So, what have we learned from all this?"
Um...
So lately, God has been using the imagery of a big white Jeep Gladiator with me regarding a different matter. This morning, I was asking God "Why a Jeep Gladiator, as opposed to a Ford/Chevy/Ram/Toyota/Nissan? Is it the NAME Gladiator that is important?"
"The-God-Who-Fights-For-Us" ? "The-God-Who-Fights-Our-Battles" ?
A Google search brought me to Exodus 14:14, where Moses and the children of Israel are camped at the edge of the Red Sea. They look behind and see ALL Pharaoh's horses and chariots, horsemen and troops, hard on their heels. All is lost!
"As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, 'Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn't we say to you in Egypt, "Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians"? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'
Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you, you need only to be still.' -Exodus 14:10-14, NIV
But The Message puts verse 14 a little less tactfully:
"God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouth shut!"
I deleted my comments on his post.
